Hall & Stairs

Boldmere, Birmingham

A clean, sleek entryway and stairs updated for contemporary everyday living

The clients wanted me to open up their dark hall and bring it into a more modern era. They asked for minimal furniture and a bold colour. First, I had all of the dark wood doors and panels sprayed white to lighten the space. Then, having the Victorian heritage monochrome tiles laid made a great focal point.

A teal runner and carpet was sourced for the stairs and landing to have that pop of colour, which was then hand edged in black to tie the two materials together. As requested, I kept the furniture to a minimum with a large antiqued silver mirror and a black glazed console table.

The clients were so happy with the design that they decided, after my advise to replace the front door and side window to both modernise it and complement the design. Finishing touches involved the unique flush ceiling lights, the aqua balls on top of both newel post and the teal glass lamp ensured a well rounded design.
